Preventive Care

What is Preventive Care?

Preventive dentistry is the practice of caring for your teeth to keep them healthy.  This helps to avoid cavities, gum disease, enamel wear and more.  There are many forms of preventive dentistry, such as daily brushing, dental cleanings, fluoride and sealants.  Preventive care visits usually last between 40-60 minutes depending on the age and health of the patient.  Many of our practice locations offer multiple providers to allow several family members to conveniently be seen at the same time.

During your first visit, your dentist will take a full health history.  On follow-up visits, if your health status has changed, make sure to tell your dentist.

What you can expect during most visits:

  • A Thorough Cleaning – We remove built-up plaque and tartar that can cause gum disease, cavities, bad breath and other problems. We will also polish and floss your teeth.
  • A Full Dental Examination – We perform a thorough examination of your teeth, gums and mouth, looking for signs of disease or other problems.
  • X-Rays – Our digital radiographs can diagnose problems otherwise unnoticed, such as damage to jawbones, impacted teeth, abscesses, cysts or tumors and tooth decay.
